I can't wait to get he car setup to run. I'd love to be he first AMC in F.A.S.T. I think the AMCs that had the biggest wheelhop problems were the Gremlin due to their short wheelbase and the Rebel Machine due to the coil spring rear suspension. I'll have to make sure I get a handle on traction. Here's a question. Do people talk about their combos at all? I'm curious if most things are a secret or if people are open about what they've done, how they've done it, etc. Even though the 360 in SC/360 might have been the original engine size, let's just say it will be a few more cubic inches than that...heh-heh-heh...nondisclosed_email@example.com (imacarfan2)Wed, 17 Oct 2007 13:32:36 +0000 Re: New guy...hoping to run FASThttps://bfastracingmessageboard.runboard.com/p379,from=rss#post379https://bfastracingmessageboard.runboard.com/p379,from=rss#post379quote:COBRAJET2 wrote: It's about time someone put togather an AMC for the F.A.S.T. class. You'll have to address that. They may have been stick shift cars though. Good luck with your build! mike Ditto...I think you could get that wheel-hop under control (tire pressure, spring rates, & weight shifting). I always thought a 70-71 SCJ Torino would be tough to beat too, and sure enough, Mr. Carey showed up and proved my point, you'll have to do it with 100ci. & a 1000lbs less though. nondisclosed_email@example.com (hodgesgi)Wed, 17 Oct 2007 11:51:43 +0000 Re: New guy...hoping to run FASThttps://bfastracingmessageboard.runboard.com/p376,from=rss#post376https://bfastracingmessageboard.runboard.com/p376,from=rss#post376quote:imacarfan2 wrote: Do you do porting on AMC heads, cause if you do... I've done several AMC heads for street cars and they responded very nicely. Intake port is similar to the Mopar 340 intake port but the exhaust ports on the AMC are superior. I think a light weight AMC could be a contender! nondisclosed_email@example.com (Greg Gessler)Wed, 17 Oct 2007 09:07:30 +0000 Re: New guy...hoping to run FASThttps://bfastracingmessageboard.runboard.com/p375,from=rss#post375https://bfastracingmessageboard.runboard.com/p375,from=rss#post375It's about time someone put togather an AMC for the F.A.S.T. class. Just joined and thought I'd say hi. I was just told about this site by Chris (CJK440) and thought I'd check it out and sign up. I had posted on Moparts a while ago about the car I'm thinking of building for FAST racing and received some positive feedback, so now I thought I'd jump in here. I have a 1971 AMC Hornet SC/360 that is in the very early beginning stages of being built for this series. Basically, I'm starting to gather parts and info for setting the car up. The car needs a complete restoration or I *might* pick up a clean shell and build a clone, but I'd rather build up the real car, it just needs a LOT of rust work. Now, a lot of you might be thinking "What is a Hornet SC/360 and can it be competitive?". The SC/360 was a one year only AMC that came in 2BBL and 4BBL versions. The 4BBL version got a functional hood scoop. The car also came with probably the best AMC production heads made...the 291 castings. They had a small dish for decent compression and were the new dogleg port design introduced in 1970. The car is light, too. My car came stock with no power options, the 360-4BBL, column shift auto (no floor shift auto available in the SC/360), and a 3.54 twin grip rear out back. The SC/360 was pretty much the replacement for the 390-powered SC/Rambler and 390-powered Rebel Machine. AMC wanted to put the (new for 1971) 401 in the Hornet, but insurance killed that idea, so they stuck the 360 in it instead. With a 360 in the light Hornet body, these cars could move. I feel the SC/360 never got the appreciation they deserved and only 784 cars were produced. My car is one of 249 with the 360 4BBL and auto combo. So there it is. I'm *hoping* to have the car ready for the 2009 racing season, unless I drop every other project I have (and find a money tree in the back yard) and started building it TODAY, maybe I could have the car done sooner, but I doubt it. Even 2009 is a stretch with all the work it needs, but who knows. I'll keep you all posted on any progress. Any tips, hints, techniques, ideas, etc. would be appreciated.
