Have a few questions, including one for Terry
Hi everyone! My name is Jerry, and I have a 1969 corvette with a big block that I'm considering building into a ZL1/Auto clone to race in FAST. But I have a few questions.
My first is to Terry. I know you're running a 12 bolt but what type of rear suspension are you running in your L88 vette? There really aren't any specifics in the rules concerning IRS vettes, so I am trying to figure out what's allowed. Are 6 links legal? If not, what would be? Stock vette suspension can't hold up to drag racing. (At least it won't for me. )
Next, are aluminum radiators allowed if disguised to look stock?
I have a pretty radical engine in mind, and would like to make sure it would be legal before I build it, as it will cost a fortune. Would you allow composite rods, titanium crank, and lightweight pistons? (Yes, I know, overkill, but money isn't an issue for me, and I want to run at the front of the pack.)
And last but not least: (I know I'm being a little hopefull by saying this but I thought I'd ask anyway, as I'm VERY competitive when it comes to racing)
If I do somehow get my car to run faster than 150mph, and a parachute would be required, how do you guys plan on enforcing this rule? Will you just let us run one, or would we have to somehow hide it? (I can't figure out how that would even be possible, lol!)
Thankyou,
Jerry

Welcome aboard. I don't know if you actully read the rules or not but each and everyone of your questions are pretty much clearly stated. Alum rad is legal if shaped and painted to look stock. Suspension needs to be stock with no added traction devices. You can do what ever you like to the motor as long as you start with the factory casted block, heads, intake and exhaust manifolds. The parachute thing I am at a lose on?
If the rules are followed to the letter of the law by all I don't think we will see any parachutes in FAST. But I maybe wrong again!
Good luck and hope to see you soon!

Re: Have a few questions, including one for Terry
Hi Ed!
Thanks for answering my question!
I didn't know if certain parts are allowed on corvettes because of their IRS's tendency of excessive wheelhop. I just can't imagine that Terry is running stock corvette rear suspension, as I busted mine multiple times running just 600 hp and nitto 555R drag radials, and he is running much more power.
Thanks,
Jerry

Hope you get it worked out! I would think the Corvette should be the deadliest car out there but like anything else there are weaknesses to overcome.
Good luck

hi, zl1 vette is not FAST legal at least as of 3 years ago. They claimed becase only 2 documneted cars made it would not be allowed. Thats why i did the camaro.
Take a look at toms differentials for vette irs parts, you may already know about this.

Jerry,
I like how you think...how did Kasey Kasum say it?

Welcome aboard Jerry, you can glance at the rules here: www.fastraces.org
150mph is pretty fast, i`m no GM guy but i`ve been told you can build way more power with an iron block (GM performance blocks are not legal, I believe Terry say`s he uses a "512" block in all his builds) but right now according to the way the rules are written all safety equipment is allowed.

Really? Well, that changes alot..... I really was hoping to use the ZL1 block I have. I wouldn't think just two being made would matter because it was still a factory option. (It was just an expensive one.)
And yes, I already know about tom's differential. But thanks for telling me anyway!

Yes, I know that's what they say, but I'd like to try to build one and see what I can get out of it. If it's not competitive, I'd go to an L88, and see if I can make more power with that. But I'd like to try the ZL1 first, because of it's weight advantage.
But if what ssscamaro said is true, I guess I won't be able to do it.....
