Re: 2011 Factory Stock Rules?

There was an amendment handed out for the current rules that will be in effect for 2011. Hopefully it will be posted on the Pure Stock Drags website soon, but they are really slow on updates. Basic rules here:

New engine rules are in place for 2011, so if you have questions now, you may want to email them for a copy.

Re: 2011 Factory Stock Rules?

I just read the new PSMCDR rule changes for 2011. The new rules allow a so-called "pure stock" with flat top pistons to run a high compression domed racing piston with thinner than stock rings and a compression ratio 1.5 points over advertised compression! I wonder, who does this new rule accomodate?

The current F.A.S.T. Factory Stock rule states: "PISTONS MUST BE OF THE ORIGINAL DESIGN FOR THE YEAR AND HORSEPOWER CLAIMED. REPLACEMENT FORGED PISTONS ARE ALLOWED AS LONG AS THEY DO NOT INCREASE COMPRESSION".

In my opinion, I see no reason to change this rule as it reflects what a legitimate "Factory Stock" should comply to. In fact, I would like to see the F.A.S.T. tech form sign-off sheet list what type of piston is used and the actual compression ratio. A compression ratio of .5 (or even 1 point) over advertised compression would be more realistic what can be attained with stock-type pistons and normal "blueprinting".

I agree Jim,1.5 over stock seems like alot to me.Whats wrong with running advertised compression?Maybe a .5 over for blueprinting.Just a thought.

I myself can't see spending money on something that isn't NHRA legal. Doesn't seem to make any sense to me emoticon .

We almost have to follow the PSMCDR rules, were looking to attract the same fish. I agree the NHRA deal was already set in stone and would have been very easy to keep.

Is that the only rule chance for 2011? How's a guy suppose to build a car for this? Where can we get the new rules? emoticon

From what I have been told, there is not a lot of difference from 1.5 over adv. compression and what NHRA legal compression is. There are going to be a few cars that it will hurt like the Hemis and RA 4 Pontiacs but will allow more compression for 6 bbl cars and even my little 350 ho. The main difference is how you can get there like Jim said (different pistons instead of cutting up heads or thinner head gaskets).

For once I agree with Mr Cannon and Jim Mino , why so much and why any piston?? You just took out all chances of keeping them under control.
They had there chance to change it to what they wanted and caved IN AGAIN ! emoticon Ohh well show up and have fun- just stop calling them Pure Stock-
