Anyone running any mopar RB (440) based engines?

Hello all. I am new to forum but have been lurking in the shadows for quite sometime.

I see the 340, the 440+6bbl, the HEMI, and the 383 build but have yet to see anyone build a 440 4bbl engine.

I am interested in possibley putting one together myself. Is anyone on this board running this particular combo?

Im more interested to know about the heads and manifolds.

I would like to start with a 540ish short block. 906 heads or possibley CNC'd stealths. I know the stealths are not f.a.s.t legal but we do not have a f.a.s.t class at our track so I do not have to stick to the rules. Basically I would like to put together a stock appearing 540 RB and have it run low 10's all day long in a E-body.

Thanks in advance!

Do you want to use the stock carb and intake?

I would like to use a stock appearing intake yes. It can be a reproduction aluminum peice but as close to stock appearing as possible.

Forgot about the carb! If I can pull enough air through the "stock" carb then yes. I would like the engine to look as close to stock as possible.

You won't be able to make enough smoke with that combo to run low tens

Matt

Take it from some that has tried everything when it comes to running a stock appearing wedge! It would be cheaper to build a Hemi.

If your not worried about stock heads, intake and carb and just wanna paint everything orange and hide a holley under the stock air cleaner I guess it could be done?

Good Luck
Ed

Matt, I am in the same dilemna, I am building a 69 GTX 440 4bbl.

Three problems. 1. The carb is ok but you must do a port job on it. 750AVS doesnt flow 750cfm in stock form, but you can pick it up with porting. 2. the 69 intake is junk compared to a 73 thermoquad type. If we could run that intake! With center cut out, I have tested it against the 69-71 style and an m-1 alum for that matter and I was 3/10ths better at BIR with the thermoquad. It has a lot more volume, and I got mine to flow like a street dominator. 3. the exhaust manifolds hold this motor back 60HP easy..where Hemi manifolds only lose 20HP.

I am completing mine just to see how it runs and then will probably succomb and build a HEMI.
I could only get about 11.8 with a 750 avs atop thermo intake on my 71 440 cuda..running thru hooker headers..and a racer brown hyd cam...6 pack pistons...3 inch exhaust....and hoosier quick time pro's....
I am also going to switch my 71 cuda over to a stocker type 440 for now. Get working on them and get them dialed in...maybe just local bragging rights unitl I can follow Wayne Nelson and Joel Nystrom out East sometime.

Jeff Matz...Minnesota Guy...I am new to forum as well emoticon emoticon
