big cams that sound stock
Okay, another FNG question. How do you run a HUGE cam, yet make it sound "stock"? I am figuring it has to do with overlap, or lack thereof. Who would be a good grinder to talk to about a FAST cam grind?

My cam has .760 lift and idles very well at 750 rpm.I do not remember the off hand what the overlap is.I know it could use some tweaking to make more power it sounds much tamer than most of the other guys cars.

.760 and idles well at 750 rpm. That is what I am talking about. Where does somebody find such a cam?

Wide lobe center angle does the trick. I've also been able to reduce the "camminess" with modifications to the idle circuit in the carburetor.

Re: big cams that sound stock
Last weekend I was standing in the shop of a highly respected hemi engine builder. He was reading the FAST rules and when he got to that rule he said "What is this a f---ing joke" and I replied with "yes it is" and then we had a real good laugh. So that rule is good for something.
